How Hospitals Select Foot and Ankle Doctors

We’ve all had that moment when we wonder how on earth that person got their job. There’s no reason they should have it they’re way too good to be working the dump you’re currently inside. Well, the hiring process and what hospitals look for out of their foot and ankle doctors, is a lot like any other process. Some very basic qualifications from the candidate have to be met to start getting paid for treating patients. Then it’ll be off to the races treating everything from bunions to Plantar Fasciitis treatment Lancaster.

Well, there are a few things that hospitals have to look for from candidates as that they might consider hiring. As you know it’s not easy to become a practicing physician. They don’t just select someone at random and give them a lab coat. There’s a lot of work that has to go into the selection and a lot of qualifications that the candidate has to meet. Some might even say that it’s more than a president has to meet. Sidestepping that political job I took, here are just a few of the things that a hospital is looking for out of a physician.

Type Of Doctor

The type of doctor that hospitals look for when it comes to foot and ankle injuries or surgeries is called a DPM. That means Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. The absolute first thing that has to be seen is that they received a doctorate. As well as where they received it might also matter depending on the pickiness of the recruiters who are doing the hiring.

The next step is to ensure that the person in question meets other qualifications. For instance, they have to complete at least 4 years of podiatric medical school that includes the training specific to their field they’re being hired for. They must have a 3-year post-graduate degree. That’s just naming a couple of them.

Certification

The next thing they have to make sure the candidate has is foot surgery certification. The candidate gets this after performing a minimum of sixty-five foot and ankle surgery procedures through their time in medical school as an intern learning under a doctor. This may seem excessive but it isn’t they will have a lot required of them and the hospital can’t have someone who isn’t properly trained and experienced. It not only would be atrocious for the patients who are trusting this doctor but it would open the hospital up to an endless number of lawsuits. Past even that they have to pass a certification exam. All of these requirements are needed just get them into the interview and they must be renewed at least every 10 years.

Interview

Once they’re in the interview though it comes down to the type of person that particular hospital is looking for to have on their staff. Are they searching for someone calm and warm or are they looking for someone more high energy who is going to be under constant pressure? There’s no way to know and all they can do is go in and be themselves.

This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to what hospitals are looking for out of the doctors that they hire on staff. Most of these were just basic qualifications that you have to have in order to practice. I didn’t even touch on state-specific qualifications. Rest assured that if you have to visit and foot and ankle doctor to enact your Plantar Fasciitis, treatment Lancaster, that they have done their homework on every doctor you visit.
